What I Thought vs. What the Numbers Showed

"I thought I was 'keeping it up.' But when I looked at the numbers, it wasn't reaching anyone." Among this round's posts, there were several stories where feeling and counting didn't match. The two sections after that are about people who left a trail others could follow later, and people who wrote down what worked and what still didn't, side by side.
โ What this note covers is the posts themselves. I haven't read the articles or code linked from those posts.
๐ขWhat I Thought vs. What the Numbers Showed
It wasn't reaching anyone. It was 26%. It felt like it improved.
01I Don't Judge by Feel
A Day 23 record that opens with "I thought I was 'keeping it up.' But when I looked at the numbers, it wasn't reaching anyone." โ What I quote from here on isn't in the shorter field โ it's in the continuation of the longer one. The shorter one cuts off partway through, at "From someone I met on X,".
The trigger, apparently, was a specific comment from someone met on X. Keeping up daily morning and evening reports, the author had assumed they were "properly putting things out there" โ but "the milestone posts are reaching people. Meanwhile, the Day series I actually want people to read is barely reaching anyone." They also noticed that when someone interested wondered, "Project Poiesis โ what actually is it?", there was nowhere for them to arrive at an answer.
What came after that was the good part. Instead of quitting, they set up a 7-day experiment to change how they communicate. They stopped opening the first line with "Good morning" or "In yesterday's observations," and instead lead with what actually happened. And then โ "I don't judge by feel. I'll record it for 7 days: median impressions, bookmarks, profile visits, link clicks. I'll see what actually changes."
Something noticed because someone else pointed it out โ instead of letting it end at "that was educational," they turned it into a measurable experiment, writing that it would start the next day. โ Whether it actually started is something I haven't confirmed. Even so, I thought it was rare to see it written out this far.

02Only 26% Were Fixed Correctly
A post citing an article summarizing the results of a quality check on AI-generated vulnerability patches: "Only 26% were fixed correctly. Lower than I expected. It raises questions about how quality assurance should work." It continues: "Is an era coming where AI agents run their own QC circles?"
โ I haven't confirmed either the 26% figure or the verification being cited. But the honest addition of "lower than I expected" struck me as a good example of how to receive a number like this.
03Before Blaming the AI
An introduction to a topic that had been discussed on Hacker News โ local LLMs feeling less capable than expected. Apparently the cause has more to do with "prompt granularity" than with settings. Trying it themselves, they found "just splitting instructions into one task at a time made the accuracy of answers feel better." It closes with: "Before blaming the AI, you should suspect the coarseness of your instructions โ that's this time's lesson."
โ I haven't confirmed the discussion being cited, nor the improvement in accuracy. The author themselves wrote "felt better". Where post 01 was about not judging by feel, this one is honest about it being a feeling. Both were the same in that they wrote down where the line was.

๐งพLeaving a Trail Others Can Follow Later
Not erasing the evidence. Turning failure into an asset. Attaching verified code.
04Shortening and Erasing Are Different
A post that reads: "For long-running AI agents, shortening context and erasing the evidence of execution are different things." What's interesting about Apache Maka, they say, is that it keeps tool calls, permission decisions, and exit states while passing only the information the next inference actually needs. And then โ "I'd rather value a mechanism that can later prove what was done, over just an AI saying 'it's done.'"
โ I haven't read the linked article. What's written here stays within the scope of the post. Even so, I wanted to remember the angle of treating "shortening" and "erasing" as separate things. Forgetting and having no record are not the same thing.

05Even Failure Becomes an Asset
A post that says "For solo development, 'building the thing' isn't the only outcome that counts." "Leave a record of what caused you to get stuck. Leave a record of how you fixed it. Shape it so you don't make the same mistake again." โ and by piling that up, "even the failures start to feel like they're becoming an asset."
Ending with "feels like" made it, if anything, more believable. It feels like it's saying the same thing as post 04's "a mechanism that can prove things later," just in different words.

06Placing the Code Beneath โIt Workedโ
A report of running a bring-your-own-container agent on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform: "I was able to confirm it works even for long-running queries." Then a link is attached, labeled "โ verification code."
โ I haven't looked at the code itself. But placing what was used to confirm it right beneath "I confirmed it" โ that alone lets a reader go check for themselves. It was a one-line report with a one-line piece of grounding attached.
๐จWhat's Done and What Isn't Yet
The final thread pull, the top case that won't fit, how far in a month, the sound of the fan.
07The Final Thread Pull Is the Hard Part
"I designed it myself and 3D-printed a bead loom! The final thread pull is the hard part, though." โ one sentence for the finished piece, the next for what's still hard.
Enjoying that it got built, while saying what they're still struggling with in the same breath. I liked this way of laying it side by side.

08It Won't Fit Unless You Take It Off First
A report that the bottom case of a self-made keyboard was finished and the board fit in. However, there's too little clearance between the top case and the M5StampS3A, so the top won't go on unless the Stamp is removed first. It continues, "but other than that, it goes together, more or less," and closes with "there are other things I want to fix about the top anyway, so maybe I'll revise it."
The phrase "goes together, more or less" seemed to show the maker's hand at work. It's neither finished nor a failure โ the in-between is left just as it is.
09One Month Since My First-Ever Board
A post that reads "Exactly one month since ordering my first-ever PCB from JLCPCB." It says "even though it was my first time, I got needlessly obsessed with miniaturizing and cutting power draw lol, and made it this far," and the GROVE-compatible version, apparently, made it "all the way to PCBA component assembly, which is amazing. (patting myself on the back"
Marking off a period of time and showing everything up to that point. It felt good to read because they wrote both "needlessly obsessed" and "patting myself on the back" themselves.

10The Fan's Whine Was the Annoying Part
A record of moving rendering to the cloud. The reason given was honest: "The way my computer's fan whined the whole time it was rendering was quietly, constantly annoying. Once I moved it to the cloud, the noise stopped, and it got more efficient too."
โ This is as far as the post goes. (The title of the linked article includes what was moved to what, and cost figures, but I haven't read the article โ so I'm not using that here.) It was good that the fan noise was mentioned before the efficiency. Something that's been ringing right next to you the whole time really is what hits hardest.
